Eligibility Criteria to Practice as a Medical Practitioner in Australia:
We are governed by the guidelines provided by the Australian Commonwealth Government’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship and the Australian Medical Council on eligibility to practice as a medical practitioner in Australia and ask that all international doctors ensure that they satisfy these guidelines prior to applying for a position with ACHA

Can I receive supervised practice at ACHA as a Medical Officer?
ACHA is unable to provide supervised practise for international Doctors.
What Medical Officers are employed by ACHA?
Each of the three ACHA hospitals employs medical officers. These medical officers are classified as Salaried Medical Officers (SMO).
SMO’s are primarily employed to support patient care prescribed by Visiting Medical Officers (Specialists) within specific specialty units, and to provide emergency care to all other patients in the ACHA hospitals.
To be able to apply for a position as a SMO with ACHA you must have full medical practitioner registration in Australia (including registration with the Medical Board of South Australia), be eligible with Medicare Australia for a Medicare Provider Number that enables you to prescribe medications and meet the position criteria.
Can I receive assistance with a Visa?
If you are offered a position with ACHA as a SMO we are happy to support an application
to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DAIC) for a sponsored visa.
